Monthly Program/Speaker Series

Each program meeting includes a presentation by a local or regional individual involved in conservation, research, or birding. All meetings start with about 10 minutes of updates on local avian and conservation concerns and BCAS updates.

Unless otherwise noted, all programs are on the 4th Tuesday of the month. Socializing begins at 7:00 PM with the presentation starting at 7:15 PM. In-person programs are held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder, 5001 Pennsylvania Avenue, off 55th St. between Arapahoe and Baseline. In 2020 and 2021, programs are being held online. Find out about upcoming topics on the program schedule.

Field Trips

BCAS field trips are fun, informative, and open to members and the public. Most field trips are free (exceptions noted in field trip descriptions). Please check to see if individual trips require pre-registration. View the upcoming Field Trips.

Interludes With Nature

Interludes with Nature is a special series of field trips. These trips are led by this area’s most knowledgeable birders and naturalists and take participants to places you wouldn’t often get to see. Monies raised by this important fundraising tool, send our Teen Naturalists to nature camps in Maine and the Colorado Rockies.

These trips have initial registration to members only, and then open to the public. The trips are extremely popular and often sell out with just the members.  View upcoming Interludes With Nature trips.

Special Events

The BCAS hosts or contributes to several special events each year.  These include a Holiday Sale, the local celebration of World Migratory Bird Day, and the annual Boulder Christmas Bird Count among others.  In addition, we use the special events section to highlight community events that may be of interest to Boulder County Audubon members.

Boulder Christmas Bird Count

The first Boulder Christmas Bird Count was on Christmas Eve 1910–before they were even called Christmas Bird Counts but simply the Bird Lore Annual Census. Since 1975 Boulder County Audubon has supported the organization of the annual Boulder Christmas Bird Count.

All are welcome — even those who think they know little about bird species. What birds are in town for the holidays? Help us find them — contact us and we’ll help you find a compatible group. The annual event is usually held the last-Sunday before Christmas but check the upcoming special events (usually posted mid-October) for the date and more information. During the past two decades, Boulder has consistently been in the top 10 nationally in numbers of participants (more than 100) and has been in the top three statewide in numbers of species observed.
